Waterloo toddler dies after falling into the Mississippi River

July 6, 2015 By Matt Kelley

Police car lightsA northeast Iowa toddler died over the weekend after being pulled from the Mississippi River.

Two-year-old Brylea Morgan of Waterloo died early Sunday morning at University of Iowa Hospitals, several hours after being pulled from Mississippi River Saturday evening.

It happened near the Wisconsin side of the river, across from Waupeton, Iowa. The Grant County Wisconsin Sheriff’s Department reports Brylea’s family was on an island preparing for a group picture, when the child and her mother went to the boat to get an item. After the mother got out of the boat, she noticed her child was missing.

Brylea was then found under the boat in the water. The girl had been wearing a life jacket prior to the incident, but it was removed for the family group photo.
