The Board of Regents is expected to approve the athletic department budgets for the three state schools at its meeting today. The University of Iowa’s athletic budget is increasing by $1.6 million to $93.6 million. The U-I’s budget is self-sustaining and officials say an expected decline in football season ticket revenue will be offset by increased support from the U-I Foundation.

The budget for Iowa State University is increasing by around one million dollars to $70 million. The school says increased salary costs are part of the reason for the increase. Iowa State’s athletic department also receives no state support, and officials say an increase in ticket revenue is projected — mainly from hosting the annual football matchup with the University of Iowa.

The University of Northern Iowa’s budget is $13.1 million — about the same as last year. The school expects to increase revenue through higher basketball ticket prices, but will see a drop in football revenue from fewer guaranteed revenue games.

The UNI athletic department does cover the majority of its budget with its own revenue, receiving 2.4 percent of its budget from state money.
