Former Iowa Hawkeye football star Tyler Sash was found dead this morning by family. The cause of death is not yet known and an autopsy is planned by the state medical examiner.

The 27-year-old Oskaloosa native played safety for the Hawkeyes between 2008 and 2010 and was an All Big Ten selection. He was a sixth round selection in the NFL draft and, as a rookie, played for a New York Giants team that won a Super Bowl in 2011. Sash was cut from the Giants prior to the 2013 season.

Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz postponed his Tuesday news conference citing “a private issue regarding the Iowa football program, unrelated to game preparation.” Ferentz will meet with the media at 2:15p.m. on Wednesday.
