Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz says it occurred to him this week that Saturday’s game will be his 26th as part of the Iowa-Iowa State series.

Ferentz joined Hayden Fry’s staff shortly after the series resumed in 1977 and this week’s game will be his 17th against the Cyclones as a head coach.

“I just fully understand and appreciate what this series is all about”, said Ferentz. It has been a great series through the years and certainly has since I’ve been back. On top of that it is a very exciting football game for all of our players that grew up in the state of Iowa.”

Iowa has a commanding 40-22 lead in the all time series but the Cyclones have claimed three of the last four, including a 20-17 triumph in Kinnick Stadium last year.
