President Obama has nominated a woman to a federal judgeship who’s been serving as a district court judge in Iowa since 2012.

Rebecca Goodgame Ebinger has been nominated to be a U.S. District Court judge for the Southern District of Iowa. Ebinger has worked out of the Polk County Courthouse in Des Moines for the past three years after Iowa Governor Terry Branstad named her a district court judge at the state level.

Ebinger has worked on the prosecuting side, too, as an assistant U.S. attorney. Ebinger graduated from Georgetown and got her a law degree from Yale in 2004.

Ebinger must win a confirmation vote in the U.S. Senate to become a federal judge. Republican Senator Chuck Grassley nominated her for the post and he is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee which handles judicial nominations.
