Ottumwa police have made three arrests after a man was shot Wednesday afternoon.

The call came in at around 1:15 in the afternoon, a drive-by shooting on Ottumwa’s North Side. One person was shot, Ottumwa Police Chief Tom McAndrew described the man’s injuries as probably not life threatening.

After a brief search of the area, sheriff’s deputies located a vehicle matching the description provided by witnesses. That vehicle was just two blocks away from the initial shooting. Police quickly surrounded the home. About two hours later, and after at least half an hour on the phone with negotiators, three subjects inside the home surrendered to police.

Chief McAndrew says he believes this was not a random crime, that the victim probably knew the suspects.
