The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission approved a $20,000 penalty against the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort Thursday for allowing a minor to gamble.

Racing and Gaming administrator Brian Ohorilko says the 18-year-old entered the casino with her parents.

“That minor was not asked to produce any identification, in addition she was on the floor for more than 30 minutes, and had gambled,” Ohorilko.

He says the casino reported the incident to the commission after discovering the minor. “Riverside agreed to the facts stipulated in the agreement and agreed to pay an administrative penalty of 20-thousand dollars,” Ohorilko says.

Ohorilko says there have been no other such violations at Riverside that he knows of in the last year. “They have not had a history of repeated violations…this is not a pattern at this facility,” according to Ohorilko. The Racing and Gaming Commission issued the penalty at their meeting Thursday in Dubuque.
