Iowa City shop owner admits to illegally selling synthetic marijuana

October 7, 2015 By Dar Danielson

GavelA man who owned a head shop in Iowa City has admitted to illegally selling synthetic marijuana. Thirty-seven-year-old Robert Sharp pled guilty to conspiring to manufacture and distribute a synthetic drug.

Sharp admitted in his plea deal that he ordered bulk materials to make the synthetic marijuana and then packaged it and sold it under various names from his shop in Iowa City called “Pipe Dreamz.” Federal agents raided Sharp’s store and the home of his employee Wayne Watkins in Center Point in May and found thousands of synthetic products, including a liquid form designed to be smoked in an e-cigarette.

Sharp agreed to forfeit $200,000s he received from illegally selling the synthetic drugs. He faces a maximum 60-year prison sentence and a three million dollar fine once his sentencing date has been set.
