Healthiest-StatethmbOrganizers of Wednesday’s Healthiest State Walk says they are pleased with the support across the state. Healthiest State Initiative spokesperson Jamie Haberl says everything went really well.

She says the weather was perfect and they met the goal of having at least one walk in all 99 counties. Haberl said there is no final number available as to how many participated.

Haberl says they did not have people register for the walk, but do know there were 950 some walks. “You can probably guestimate that we easily had a couple a hundred thousand people walking throughout the state of Iowa,” Haberl says. Since the walk started four years ago, over 1.1 million people have participated in the walks.

Haberl encourages says they hope the walks are just the start of a routine, because she says walking is a cheap and easy way to get exercise and become healthier. “So, we’re really encouraging Iowans to get out and continue to do those walks and build up for next year’s walk,” Haberl says. She says they have materials you can download to do activities at your business or school. You can find out more tips at www.iowahealthieststate.com.
