ihsaaThe offices of the Iowa High School Athletic Association in Boone will be busy on Friday night as officials work on the first round pairings for the state football playoffs.

Todd Tharp of the IHSAA says the first priority is to get all the scores and tabulate the qualifiers. After that is complete the pairings will be set for the opening round.

“Obviously we have some criteria involved and for the first round games. We have a 125-mile limitation and schools can’t travel more than 125 miles in classes 3A through 8-player”, said Tharp. “The other critereia is a district champion has to play a fourth place team and a second place team has to play a third place team.”

Tharp says the pairings should be on the web by around 2:00a.m. on Saturday.
