Crime-sceneAuthorities in northeastern Iowa’s Benton County are investigating an apparent homicide. The probe began after residents found a stolen truck, abandoned and damaged in a rural area east of Vinton late Sunday morning. The residents then discovered a trail of blood and found the body of an unresponsive woman in a driveway nearby.

The Benton County Sheriff’s office received the call shortly before noon. When they arrived, deputies discovered a white female who was dead from injuries sustained from what they called “suspected foul play.” Sheriff’s officials notified the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation to assist on the case.

On Monday, authorities with the state agency confirmed the case is being treated as a homicide, but released no other information. The name of the victim isn’t being made public until family members are notified.
