Iowa State’s offense will have a new quarterback and a new play caller on Saturday night when the Cyclones host Texas. Sophomore Joel Lanning will get his first start and it will be the first game for new offensive coordinator Todd Sturdy, who took over after Mark Mangino was fired on Monday morning.

It’s not the first time in the role for Sturdy. He was the offensive coordinator at Washington State.

“I’ve called plays in so many games and feel very comfortable doing it”, said Sturdy. I am not saying I have all the right answers or do all the right things but I have done it a lot and feel very comfortable doing it. ”

Iowa State is 2-5 and takes on a Texas team that is 3-4.
