Fire-truckThe Iowa City Fire Department says a fire broke out in the ninth floor dorm room in the Slater Residence Hall at the University of Iowa early this morning.

The fire department says the fire was reported at 1:24 A.M. and everyone was out of the building by the time firefighters arrived on the scene.

The fire activated the sprinkler system and firefighters says they were able to put the fire out by 1:30. No one was injured. The U-I says students were able to return to their rooms shortly after the fire was put out. The fire was isolated to the single room on the ninth floor, but the university says there is significant water damage on several floors.

University officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it appears to be unintentional.
