A fire at this Charles City apartment left one person dead.

The victim of a fatal fire this week in northeast Iowa has been identified. The fire was reported around 4:20 Tuesday morning at the Clarkview Apartments in Charles City.

The flames were contained to a lower-level unit where the fire started and firefighters pulled a man out of that apartment. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was died.

The victim is now identified as 61-year-old Steven Sadler, who lived alone in the apartment. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, but say it started in the kitchen and there’s “no indication of foul play” in the fire. Everyone else in the building escaped without injury.
