The University of Dubuque football team will get a chance to show how far it has come when the Spartans open the division three national playoffs on Saturday at St. Johns of Minnesota. It is the same place that Dubuque opened the regular season and lost 45-9.

Dubuque coach Stan Zweifel says a good start on Saturday would help the Spartans build confidence.

“I really felt in our last game we had a pretty good game plan but we were not able to execute it for a number of reasons and the biggest one being them”, said Zweifel. “If we can get some field position, get some first downs and make this game competitive out of the gate I think we will have a chance.”

Zweifel credits the character of his team for winning the Iowa Conference championship and getting to the playoffs. After an 0-2 start Dubuque has ripped off eight straight wins.
