Police-car-backA traffic stop early this morning in Council Bluffs quickly escalated into an assault on an officer and pursuit.

Authorities when say a Council Bluffs Police officer stopped a car for an equipment violation just after 1 A.M., the driver was unable to show identification and showed signs of impairment.

When the officer asked the man to step out of the vehicle, the driver started the vehicle and drove-off. The officer tried to grab the man who then grabbed the officer’s arm as the vehicle was moving forward. The officer was able to pull away from the suspect when he feared being dragged. He suffered minor injuries to his arm but did not require medical attention.

Other officers attempted to chase the suspect but lost sight before locating the suspect vehicle abandoned about six blocks away.
