Police-security-vestNew security procedures will take effect next week at a government installation in the Quad Cities, a move that has some people stunned. The Rock Island Arsenal is located on a Mississippi River island between Rock Island, Illinois, and Davenport.

The Arsenal is the base of operations for civilian and military workers and scores of tenants. But it’s also home to a national cemetery, a golf course, museums and picnic grounds. Come December 1st, visitors will have to go to a new visitor center to undergo a background check to get passes – good for varying lengths of time — to enter much of the installation.

The background checks will take anywhere from 15 seconds to several minutes.
