Man wanted in Des Moines murders arrested

Police car lightsA man sought in two murders in Des Moines was arrested after a standoff last night. Police stopped 39-year-old Michael Wanchanic in Dallas County on Highway 141 west of Des Moines and he stayed in the car for around four hours before giving up.

Wanchanic was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 36-year-old Bryon Howard and 31-year-old Heather Belieu. The two were found dead in a west-side Des Moines home Monday afternoon. Police are not releasing the cause of death or any other details on the case.
