Name released for inmate who died in Cerro Gordo County Jail

December 3, 2015 By Radio Iowa Contributor

DCI-shieldOfficials have released the name of the man who died at the Cerro Gordo County Jail earlier this week. Twenty-eight-year-old Dacota Witham was found dead in a cell at about 6:50 Tuesday morning.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation released Witham’s name yesterday afternoon after an autopsy was performed by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny.

The DCI says the cause of Witham’s death is under investigation, but foul play is not suspected.

Additional lab tests and complete autopsy results are expected to take several weeks. Witham had been in jail since October after a judge sentenced him to 60 days for violating his probation from convictions for domestic abuse, child endangerment and animal neglect.
