The three Republicans and one Democrat who represent Iowa in the U.S. House are joining together to make a pitch for ethanol.

The Iowa congressmen are asking House Speaker Paul Ryan to promise that anti-ethanol proposals will not be attached to any “must-pass” budget bill. The group says congress established the Renewable Fuels Standard in 2005 to reduce dependency on foreign oil, promote cleaner air and create good-paying jobs in rural America.

Iowa’s congressional delegation says the recent EPA decision to roll back the ethanol production mandate has created uncertainty in the industry and congress shouldn’t make matters worse by tweaking the Renewable Fuels Standard further or eliminating it altogether.

Congressman David Young’s office released a copy of the letter, which was also signed by Congressmen Steve King, Dave Loebsack and Rod Blum.
