The Big 12 Conference says the postgame storming of the court after the game between Iowa State and Iowa Thursday in Ames was handled properly.

In an incident that is getting national attention — fans rushed the court after the Cyclones scored in the final seconds to beat the Hawkeyes 83-82 — and in the process knocked down Des Moines Register reporter Randy Peterson. He suffered a broken leg.

Iowa State released as statement from the conference which says conference officials determined ISU handled its “postgame celebration protocol consistent with Big 12 Conference rules related to sportsmanship and ethical conduct.”

The conference statement says they are sorry to hear about the injury — wish Peterson a speedy recovery — and will have no further comment. Peterson is now recovering from surgery on the broken leg.
