GavelA Fairfield man has avoided jail time after admitting to illegally killing and transporting a bear.

Thirty-five-year-old Brenton Clark pled guilty in June to killing a grizzly bear in Alaska 2010 without a license and without properly tagging the bear.

Clark was discovered after displaying the bear in his hunting lodge in Jefferson County. He also admitted that he tried to get potential witnesses to keep quiet after he learned he was under investigation. Clark was sentenced to three years of probation for the unlawful transport and receipt of the bear.

The conditions of the probation prevent him from possessing firearms or leading hunting and fishing activities. Clark must also be confined to his home for 120 days, complete 80 hours of community service and pay a $2,000 fine.
