AmbulanceThe Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into the death of a man who died at the Cerro Gordo County Jail over the weekend.

A statement from the DCI says a man was discovered unresponsive in the male dormitory at the jail at about 3:30 Saturday afternoon.

Jail personnel immediately started lifesaving efforts with the Mason City Fire Department ambulance being called, but the man was not able to be revived.

The identity of the inmate has not been released. The DCI was asked to assist in the investigation and an autopsy is scheduled at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny.

It’s the second death in as many months at the jail, as another man died on December 1st after also being found unresponsive. No foul play was suspected in the death of 28-year-old Dacota Witham of Mason City.
