The 13th ranked Iowa State Cyclones claimed their first Big 12 victory with a hard fought win over Texas Tech. Matt Thomas scored 22 points, including six three pointers, as ISU posted a 76-69 win over the Red Raiders.
“The Big 12 top to bottom is such a great league and so talented we knew Texas Tech was going to come in here and give us all we could handle”, said Thomas. “They have a really good team and we knew we were going to have to come out here and compete.”
The Cyclones raced out to a 31-13 lead before Texas Tech climbed back to make it close in the second half and Iowa State won despite shooting less than 40 percent.
Jameel McKay added 19 points and 14 rebounds as the Cyclones improve to 1-1 in the Big 12 and 12-2 overall.
