Powerball jackpot estimate raised to $900 million

January 9, 2016 By Dar Danielson

Thousands of Iowans are hoping to cash in on the record Powerball jackpot.

Thousands of Iowans are hoping to cash in on the record Powerball jackpot.

The Powerball jackpot estimate for tonight’s drawing has been raised again, with the prize currently set at $900 million dollars.

If you chose to take the cash and run it’s $558 million. It is the largest lottery prize ever offered in North America.

A news release from the Iowa Lottery says strong sales in Iowa and across the country could lead to a final jackpot amount could be even higher.

The latest estimates this morning are that about 75 percent of all the possible 292.2 million combinations will have been purchased for tonight’s drawing.

The Iowa Lottery has been fielding inquiries from people this morning who heard that sales have been cut off for tonight’s drawing. The Lottery says that is not the case.

The Powerball drawing is at 9:59 p.m. tonight, and here in Iowa, you can buy a ticket for tonight’s drawing up until 8:59 p.m. If you buy a ticket after that time, it will be for an upcoming drawing and will not be a part of the drawing tonight.
