Woman from Muscatine dies in Cedar County accident

January 11, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Ambulance-Back-DoorA Muscatine woman was killed in a weekend accident in Cedar County. It happened Saturday morning at mile marker 259 on westbound Interstate 80.

The Iowa State Patrol says 23-year-old Scharell Shavers was passing a semi when she came upon a disabled car in the roadway. Shavers tried to try to avoid a collision but lost control on some ice and collided with the semi.

Shavers’ car and the truck both went into a ditch, and she died at the scene. The truck driver was not hurt. Troopers say Shavers was not wearing a seatbelt.

(Reporting Phil Roberts, Davenport)
