More details released in Davis County murder

January 20, 2016 By Matt Kelley

Crime-sceneInvestigators have released more information about last month’s murder of a southeast Iowa man.

Authorities found 39-year-old Michael Thomas Goodwin, Sr. dead in his home in rural Davis County on December 13 after they were sent to the home to check on his welfare. Until last week, few other details about the case were released, including how Goodwin died.

On January 11, the Iowa DCI charged Goodwin’s son, 16-year-old Michael Thomas Goodwin, Junior, with first-degree murder. On Tuesday, the DCI reported autopsy results show the older Goodwin died from gunshot wounds.
