DCI-shieldA weekend death in a house fire is under investigation in southeast Iowa. Officials in Fairfield and from the State Fire Marshall’s office and Iowa DCI are investigating an incident in which fire officials responded to a house fire and discovered a deceased male.

Details surrounding the investigation have not been released, but a press release from the Fairfield Police Department states that the Fairfield Police Department and Fairfield Fire Department responded to a fire at 800 North 12th Street Sunday afternoon and upon making entry into the residence, fire department personnel located the body of 57-year-old Richard Hendershot.

The Iowa State Fire Marshall’s Office and Iowa DCI were called to assist in the investigation and the investigation is ongoing, and no further information will be released at this time.
