Cedar Rapids woman dies at hospital following Monday fire

February 17, 2016 By Dar Danielson

Fire-truckA second person has died following a fire in a Cedar Rapids mobile home Monday.

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department reports that 76-year-old Karen Jacobs died late Tuesday at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Jacobs was found by firefighters on the couch in the living room of home along with 76-year-old Ronald Jacobs around 7:30 A.M. Monday.

Ronald Jacobs was pronounced dead at the scene by the Linn County Medical Examiner. The fire department says the cause of the fire is undetermined due to the amount of damage in the living room. But investigators say smoking materials were a contributing factor, and there were no working smoke detectors in the home.
