David Harris will be named the new athletic director at the University of Northern Iowa. Former UNI AD Troy Dannen tweeted out a congratulations to Harris this morning and called him “an inspired choice who will do a tremendous job.” Dannen left in December to take a similar job at Tulane.
Harris has served as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student Services at Iowa State since 2006. He is the sports administrator for football, men’s basketball and wrestling and also has oversight responsibilities for student-athlete development, compliance, athletic training and strength & conditioning.
Harris also worked in the athletics department at Wisconsin from 2002 to 2006. He was an Associate AD for Student Services, a role in which he was the athletics department’s chief academic officer. He also had oversight of the compliance office.
Northern Iowa has scheduled an announcement for this afternoon.
