girls state copyShelby Reicks scored nine points in the final one minute and 53 seconds of the game as top ranked Turkey Valley held off Mount Ayr 55-51 in a class 1A quarterfinal round game.

Reicks finished with 17 points and also dished out seven assists as the Trojans improved to 25-0.

” Usually when I am trying to assist people and get the them the ball then I know when it is my time and when I need to start scoring for us”, said Reicks.

For Mount Ayr it was too many missed opportunities. The Raiderettes made 10-of-15 shots in the opening half but turned the ball over 14 times and trailed 33-25 at the break. They finished the game with 21 turnovers.

” We had to change our press breaker a little bit and that seemed to help”, said Mount Ayr coach Thad Streit. We did a better job in the second half of handling their pressure.”

Junior forward Kelcie Shields led Mount Ayr with 25 points and 10 rebounds. The Raiderettes end the season with a record of 18-8.
