Mary Crompton poured in 27 points as second ranked Iowa City Regina beat number seven Manson-Northwest Webster 59-47 in a class 2A quarterfinal round game. Crompton connected on nine-of-15 shots, including five-of-eight from three point range.
As a team the Regals shot 58 percent from behind the arc as they improved to 25-0.
” We felt we were really prepared for this atmosphere and a gym like this”, said Crompton. “Pretty much all of us played at state last year so we were completely used to the atmosphere.”
Cloie Herzberg led Manson-Northwest Webster with 17 points. The Cougars shot 38 percent and were outrebounded 29-19.
“The statistics don’t lie and they shoot it well and we knew that”, said Manson-Northwest Webster coach Bret Larson. “We got ourselves in a little foul trouble and created that mess on our own. We had to adjust and play some zone and they made some shots.”
The Cougars end the season with a record of 16-9.
