Police are investigating the killing of a 16-year-old Burlington High School student late Wednesday night.
The body, identified by the Hawk Eye newspaper as Kedarie Pierre Johnson, was discovered in an alley on the south side of late Wednesday night shortly after a “shots fired” complaint was called in to the police department.
His body was found with multiple gunshot wounds.
Burlington School Superintendent Pat Coen says that Grief counselors will continue to be provided at Burlington High School “until they’re no longer needed” to help students cope with the loss.
Students say that Johnson was well liked among his peers and was described as “joyful.”
An autopsy is scheduled for today in Iowa City.

A teenager was shot to death in southeast Iowa on Wednesday night.
Burlington School Superintendent Pat Coen says the deceased is a 16 or 17 year old male student from Burlington High School. He called the death a “tragic loss.” Grief counselors have been on hand at Burlington High School today.
Officers were called out to the area on the south side of Burlington to investigate a shots fired complaint last night. While officers were searching the area, they discovered the body. Police aren’t speculating on the cause of death, but the Burlington Hawk Eye newspaper reports the body was found with multiple gunshot wounds. The name of the teenager has not been released.
Burlington Police issued a statement earlier today, seeking tips from the public on this case.
