Pella tops Marion in 4A semi

March 4, 2016 By Todd Kimm

ighsau-logo-300Katie Vander Molen scored 15 and eighth ranked Pella used a 36-20 rebounding advantage to down seventh rated Marion 54-48 in a class 4A semifinal.

The Lady Dutch also cashed in at the line and made 15-of-19 free throws.

“In practice we are always working on our free throws”, said Vander Molen. “I think the big thing is we had confidence when we stepped to the line.”

The victory was the 21st straight for the Lady Dutch who take a 22-2 record into the 4A championship game.

With two freshmen and three sophomores in the starting lineup the future is bright for Marion. The Indians close the season with a record of 20-5.

“We expected this to be close and be a good game either way”, said Marion coach Cory Laube. “It is hard now but only one team ends their season with a win. We were hoping it would be us but it was not in the cards today.”
