St. Albert advances to 1A title game

March 10, 2016 By Todd Kimm

ihsaaAfter entering the state tournament as an eighth seed Council Bluffs St. Albert is a win away from a state title. The Falcons raced out to a 13 point second quarter lead and cruised to a 70-52 win over West Hancock in a class 1A semifinal round game.

Travis Miller helped St. Albert get off to a quick start and finished with a game high 24 points.

“It is huge when I hit them early”, said Miller. “It gives me confidence for the rest of the game.”

The Falcons held West Hancock to under 32 percent from three point range, including five of 18 in the second half. West Hancock attempted 55 shots in the game and 38 of them were from three point range. The Eagles also lost the battle on the glass.

“When you get outrebounded 44-26 you make the game tougher than it needs to be”, said West Hancock coach Brian Peterson.

Connor Sonius had 17 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists to lead West Hancock
