Two people die in separate shootings in Mahaska and Wapello County

March 14, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Crime Scene TapeAuthorities in southeast Iowa are investigating two fatal shootings that happened over the weekend.

On Saturday, the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shooting in a rural area of Mahaska County. Authorities discovered a 13-year-old boy had died from a gunshot wound. An investigation by the department determined it was an accidental shooting.

Early Sunday morning, the Wapello County Sheriff’s Department along with the Ottumwa Police Department and Iowa State Patrol responded to a report of a shooting about two miles east of Ottumwa. One person was declared dead at the scene. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has been called in to assist in the investigation.

Very little information is being released on the shootings. More information is expected soon from the DCI in the Wapello County shooting.
