State regulators today issued a permit for the construction of the Bakken oil pipeline through 18 counties in Iowa.

The Iowa Utilities Board says Dakota Access has substantially complied with the requirements set out following their 3-0 vote on March 10th to give approval and the board has issued a hazardous liquid pipeline permit to the company.

The company has agreed to several provisions — including providing general liability insurance of at least 25 million dollars, and unconditional and irrevocable guarantees for the clean up of damages from a leak or spill.

The permit gives the company the right to use eminent domain to acquire the land for the pipeline. The board’s news release announcing the permit says the three boar members will not have any additional comments on the issue due to the potential for the board’s involvement in rehearing or judicial review of the decision.
