Quad Cities police break up dog fighting ring

April 15, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Police-lights-300x192Police have broken up an alleged dog fighting ring in the Quad Cities.

On Thursday, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals helped police remove 64 pit bulls from suspected dog fighting properties in Davenport and neighboring Rock Island, Illinois.

The dogs were taken to a temporary shelter. Two people whose names have not been released were arrested on felony drug charges in Rock Island following the raids. Police say 11 federal search warrants were served in connection with a year-long investigation.

In addition to the dogs, cops say they recovered dog fighting items plus drugs and a gun. They say their investigation is ongoing.
