Defense dominated as the Cardinal edged the Gold team 10-6 in Iowa’s State’s spring game. The difference was Joel Lanning’s 47 yard scoring strike to Dondre Daley in the fourth quarter. Lanning finished the game 11-for-19 for 161 yards.

“I thought his drives were really effective and he took care of the football”, said Iowa State coach Matt Campbell. “I think he has really progressed everyday and I really appreciate that about him.”

Campbell says Lanning’s role as a leader will be crucial heading into next season.

“I think he has got to be real confident after 15 practices in knowing what to do. Now it is who are you going to bring with you?”

Campbell’s debut as Iowa State coach will be September third against Northern Iowa.
