As the weather has gotten warmer so have the bats for the North Iowa Area Community College baseball team. Winners of 11 of their last 14 games, the Trojans are averaging 11 runs per game during that span and as a team are batting .340.

“Seven of our nine starters were on our World Series team last year so any time you return experience you hope for that”, said NIACC coach Travis Hergert. “We are getting production up and down the order and that has been a key. If it is not one guy it is a different guy every weekend and if you are going to win a lot of ballgames that’s what you need to have”

Sophomore outfielder Troy Bullingham leads the offense with a .427 average and 10 home runs while sophomores Malique Ziegler and Robbie Glendinning are both hitting .391 with 11 homers.

The Trojans are a blend of power and speed. They have 69 home runs this season and 53 stolen bases.

“We are first in the country in home runs but we play every different element. We do hit a lot of long balls and our lineup is kind of suited for that but we can play a different style if we need to.”

The Trojans visit Dakota County Technical College in Minnesota on Wednesday before opening a key Iowa Community College Athletic Conference series at home against Iowa Central on Saturday.
