The top two teams in the Missouri Valley Conference softball race collide in Cedar Falls this afternoon as Northern Iowa hosts Drake in a doubleheader.

At 12-2, the Bulldogs lead the Valley race while the Panthers are 9-5.

“When you get to this point in the league it is really going to be about who wants it more that day”, said UNI coach Ryan Jacobs. “It us going to be who executes the best and who makes a mistake and gives an opportunity away. That’s what the name of the game is at this point of the season.”

The Panther bats have been hot as of late as UNI has won six of its last eight games. Jacobs says the Panthers will be tested by Drake pitcher Nicole Newman who leads the Valley with 201 strikeouts.

“Offensively we have got a lot of confidence right now and I feel good about where we are at.”
