Motorcyclist dies following chase and crash in Pottawattamie County

April 20, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Police car lightsA pursuit in western Iowa’s Pottawattamie County last night ended in the death of a motorcyclist.

An Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement officer tried to stop two motorcycles in Council Bluffs at around 10:20 p.m., when the cycles sped-off. During the ensuing chase, one of the cycles got away. The second, a 2006 Yamaha, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, went out of control, jumped a curb and hit a fence.

The operator, a man in his 20’s, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the bike. After the MVE officer stopped to render aid, the motorcyclist was transported to a hospital in Council Bluffs, where he died. Authorities say the man had no identification and was driving a stolen motorcycle. His identity was still being investigated.
