The Grand View softball team is within sight of a conference title. The Vikings take a 16-4 league record on the road for a doubleheader at Avila this weekend in their first season as a member of the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

“It is a lot of fun going south to play in the spring”, said Grand View coach Lou A. Yacanich. “We figured the conference would be tough and that is what we have found and it is fun to be battling for the championship.”

The Vikings are a balanced team that is second in the conference in hitting at .313 and second in pitching with a team earned run average of 2.10.

Central Methodist is 11-3 and Evangel is 12-4. After this weekend Grand View will get to sit back and watch the remainder of the race unfold.

“There are several teams that are backed up by weather for conference doubleheaders. We finish this weekend at Avila and then we get to sit in the clubhouse and watch the race take place.”

There is plenty on the line. The HAAC regular season champion receives an automatic big into the opening round of the NAIA Tournament.
