Grand View baseball coach Lou Yacanich says his team is embracing the opportunity. The Vikings (24-14) are in the thick of the Heart of America Athletic Conference race and tonight travel to Iowa City for a non-conference game against the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Yacanich says he appreciates Iowa coach Rick Heller’s willingness to play other schools within the state of Iowa.

“It is great for the kids who had asipirations of playing in a division one program and now being able able to play against them”, said Yacanich. When coach Heller was at UNI we became pretty good friends and he is not hepped up on ratings or divisions and he just wants to make sure we get good Iowa baseball and everyone has a great experience.”

Yacanich knows the Vikings are a substantial underdog but they have won eight of the previous 35 meetings, including a 4-2 victory in 1998.

“I don’t work at this job to lose and neither do the kids. You always want to go after them and if you get them on an off day you never know.”

Iowa is 18-19 overall.
