Cooking fire leads to death of Mason City man

May 2, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Fire-truck-300x279A Mason City man is dead after a house fire Sunday morning. Fire Marshal Jamey Medlin says firefighters responded to a home on the city’s northeast side shortly before 4:50 Sunday morning.

On arrival, the occupant of the home, 24-year-old Ackhasenh Cavan, was outside of the house and medical aid was being provided prior to Cavan being transported to Mercy-North Iowa. Fire damage was contained to the kitchen and living room with smoke damage throughout the home.

Medlin says the cause of the fire was unattended cooking on the stove.
