Crime-scene-300x243Urbandale police say a Polk County Grand Jury has ruled three officers were justified in firing at a man they killed in February of this year.

The grand jury ruling follows an internal department review that found Sergeant Jeff Casey, officer Anthony Brooks and officer Justice Weaver followed the department’s policies in the shooting that killed 29-year-old Ali Eisa Yahia at the Holiday Inn in Urbandale.

Officers were called to the hotel at 4 a.m. on a drug complaint. A fight broke out as they tried to arrest Yahia in the lobby. Yahia fired a shot and officers returned fire, hitting and killing him.

Des Moines police released information shortly after Yahia’s death that showed his DNA was linked to the murder of Norma McNeeley of Des Moines on January 24th.
