Meyer takes over at Iowa Central

Justin Meyer is ready for the grind and the challenge of running his own program. After spending the last 10 years as an assistant, Meyer has been named the new head baseball coach at Iowa Central Community College. He replaces Rick Pederson, who resigned after 14 years at the helm to take a full time faculty position in the school’s language arts department.

Pederson led the Tritons to 551 wins and four trips to the NJCAA Division II World Series.

“I would have loved to have coached under him for many more years if it meant he was be able to stay in the game”, said Meyer. “Ten years with him has been an incredible experience. He has been an incredible mentor and I look forward to seeing where we can go from here.”

Meyer played at Iowa Central before moving on to Georgia State, where he graduated in 2004. He had served as the Triton’s pitching coach and says he will continue in that role.

“I have devoted my 10 years here to research and finding the best way to develop these kids and get the most out of them. I am fully going to handle the pitching staff.”

Meyer says assistant coach Eric Stein will handle the offense. He has been on the Triton staff for the past eight years.

Iowa Central finished 30-16 this past season.
