Former Casey city clerk admits to theft, setting fire to city hall

May 25, 2016 By Matt Kelley

Crime Scene TapeThe former city clerk in Casey has pleaded guilty to charges in a case that involved fraud and fire.

Sixty-one-year-old Dorothy Dillinger is the former city clerk in Casey. Dillinger admitted that she used the city’s credit card and funds to buy items for personal use. Prosecutors said Dillinger set fire to the 125-year-old Casey Community Building in August of last year in order to destroy records state auditors were set to review.

Auditors were still able to track down records for city accounts and identified nearly $300,000 worth of questionable spending over a six year period. On Tuesday, Dillinger pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud and one count of malicious use of fire. She could now face 5 to 20 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for September 26.
