burlington-police-badgeA teenager faces a drunken driving charge for making the wrong kind of drive on a southeast Iowa golf course.

A Burlington teenager was injured after his car ended up at the bottom of a water hazard pond on Flint Hills Golf Course in Des Moines County. At around 4:00 am on Monday, a Des Moines County Sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle driven by 17 year old LeShawn Michael Wilson driving near that golf course before losing control on a turn and running off the road and into a pond on the golf course near hole #8.

Wilson managed to escape the vehicle and swim back to land before the car became fully submerged in the water. Wilson was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and Failure to Maintain Control. His injuries were minor and he was released to a parent after being checked out by paramedics.
