Woman admits to taking money from ISU sorority

June 3, 2016 By Matt Kelley

GavelThe former treasurer of an Iowa State University sorority alumni association has pleaded guilty to charges that she took nearly $1 million from the organization.

The U.S. Attorney for Iowa’s Southern District says 50-year-old Andrea Baker pleaded guilty to mail fraud and will be sentenced on October 6. Kevin VanderSchel says Baker admitted mailing checks from the Chi Omega Alumnae Association’s account to pay her personal credit card bills and she also took cash from the group. She covered up the scheme by making false enteries into the association’s financial records.

Baker admitted she received or attempted to receive $954,000 over a 14-year period. She now faces up to 20 years in prison.
